Rose looked up at the stars in the sky.
“My,
how they twinkle!” Button Rose said out
loud as she just stared at the star-studded sky.
“Mind
if I join you?” Tom Turtle asked as he
blinked sleepy eyes and tried to stifle a yawn.
“Hi,
Tom! Of course! What brings you out here after dark?”
“Well,
I want to see a shooting star!” Tom
said, as he got a little excited, and began to wake up some more.
“Who
wants to see a shooting star?” Sally
Squirrel asked. I woke up for a midnight
acorn snack and heard the commotion.
What are you guys doin’?” Sally
asked in her perky way with a twitch of her ever active nose.
Button
Rose giggled and welcomed Sally to their little star-gazing party.
“Do
you know what Mother Hen always says?”
Button Rose asked her two friends.
“What?” Sally asked with a quizzical look on her face
and a swish of her tail.
“Yes,
please tell us, B. Rose,” Tom said around a yawn as he looked to his friend,
expecting a good story.
Button
Rose began, “Well, she says that the stars tell a story. The story they tell is the story of God’s
glory. Day after day they pour forth
speech and night after night they declare knowledge of how great is the glory
of God!”
“Wow!” Tom said.
“You
mean they’re talking to us?” Sally
asked. “Why can’t I ever hear them?” Sally looked to Button Rose with her head to
the side and a question in her eyes.
“Maybe
we never listen.” Button Rose suggested. “Why don’t we take time now to just be quiet
and listen and watch and ask God to speak to us through the beauty of His
Creation. I know He will, and we will
hear His voice speaking through the beauty of the sparkling stars He created.”
With
that, the three friends agreed to be still and listen for the voice of the
stars.
While
they never heard anything spoken aloud, each one of them gained a deeper
understanding, appreciation, and awe for God—their Creator and the Creator of
the universe.
And
while they were watching, guess what happened?
Tom
got to see his shooting star!
It
was a beautiful starry night, indeed!
